About the Book

Shadows at Dusk is the second book in “Missing in Alaska” series by Elizabeth Goddard. This is a description of the title from Goodreads.

Montana Detective Trevor West is desperate to learn what happened to his sister, who went missing in Alaska over a year ago, leaving nothing but a few photographs as clues to her whereabouts. At the advice of Police Chief Autumn Long, Trevor enlists the help of an experienced bush pilot. If Carrie James can’t help him find the places in the photographs, no one can.

But Carrie has her own agenda. Grieving the death of her closest friend and the only person she could trust, Carrie will help Trevor find his sister on one condition–that he help her track down her friend’s killer.

As the two close in on the answers they crave, they’ll face dangers and connections they could not have imagined. They’ll have to learn to trust one another–and face the dark secrets of the past–if they are ever to discover the truth and bring a killer to justice.

REVIEW

“The old cargo plane vibrated as the pilot descended into the airdrop zone, the turbulence shuddering through Carrie James. She braced herself on a bench a few feet from the secured freight – emergency supplies that could mean the difference between life and death in a food-starved, war-torn country.”

And so begins the next exciting adventure from this wonderful author. By the end of the prologue, I was stunned. And I continued to be surprised throughout the book. There is plenty of well-done action and suspense in this one. After awhile, I just hoped that the main characters would finally get a full night of sleep.

Carrie James is an Alaskan pilot. When she is hired to help try to find Trevor’s sister, she is skeptical. Especially since the search is based on a bunch of random aerial photographs. But soon she is caught up in a chase where present meets past. Will they be able to survive?

The plot is definitely original. While there are certain potential cliche parts, I do feel that the author was able to go beyond the predictable. I feel like I learned about a whole new field by reading this book.

I appreciate that the romance does not take over the storyline. I would call this one suspense with a bit of romance. The romance was properly paced.

This book is a sequel to “Cold Light of Day.” Some characters are definitely connected. But one could definitely read this novel as a stand-alone and follow along without a problem. Of course, I am glad that I read the books in order.

I was given an advanced copy of this book. I wanted to read it. All opinions are my own. 5 Stars.
