Gideon thought that his survival skills class would be a simple way to start the day. But suddenly he is on the run with a woman he never planned on seeing again. Mackenzie is obsessed with finding the man who ruined her brother, and he cannot let her face the journey alone. The more she pushes ahead, the more he reconsiders. Can they find the truth together?

This is an intense book full of plenty of action, adventure and uncertainties. Set in the backdrop of a town facing seemingly imminent flooding, they are trying to outrun evil forces and the forces of nature. Romance plays a smaller role in the plot, but the primary aspect is definitely suspense.

So much of the plot was a surprise to me. I could not figure out who Gideon could trust, and Mackenzie was such a wild card – her actions were unpredictable. So many surprises were spread throughout the book. One can try to guess, but personally, I just tried to hang on for the ride.

This book is the author’s second book in the “Elements of Danger” series. Some of the characters are connected to the first book in the series entitled Fire Mountain. One could definitely read this title as a standalone.

This is a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend. So glad I received a copy as a part of a tour. I wanted to read and review it. All opinions are my own.
