I never used to get how the Israelites felt after they left Egypt. Why they complained and grumbled. Why they wanted to go back. Hello? Come on, people! God just walked you through the SEA. On dry ground. Plus He continued to show Himself in miraculous ways. Having honey wafers just show up on the ground or water out of a rock are not exactly re-creatable events. Miracles.
I finally realized that I was not in the middle of their wilderness. I can see their bigger picture. I know that at least some of them DID in fact end up in the promised land. I can read the end of their story.
I’m in the middle of my story. Looking back, I can see how God has provided. Miraculously even. Yet I look ahead and see wilderness. Nothing definite. And I forget all that God has done in the past. Too easily. Too quickly.
Maybe you are in a wilderness of your own. Wandering about, wondering where the path that you are on is going. How is God going to provide? I wish I had definitive answers for you. But I do know this: Following God WILL lead to the Promised Land. Ultimately. Something I need to remember when I feel like I am just wandering. As long as my path is leading to me to God, everything will be alright.
If you are also feeling a bit overwhelmed, I hope you will take the time to listen to this song. “Painting Pictures of Egypt” by Sara Groves has been a needed reminder to me that even though life can be hard, I will be able to look back and know that God was directing me all along.
