Lines of Gratitude: Celebrating Life and Service

November 11th has always been a day of celebration for our family.  Mainly for us because of the fact that it is my husband’s birthday.  Since he works for our city,  today is considered a government holiday.  So, every birthday we have celebrated with him being around.  Today he spent the day painting in our basement, but at least he was home with us.

Today is also special for us because we remember and appreciate the service of Papa G. in the Vietnam War, and my grandpas both fighting in World War 2.  I am glad that so many places are starting to celebrate veterans by providing them with discounts and free food.  We can never pay back their sacrifices enough.

So, whether you have a birthday in your family or are honoring Veterans, may today be a celebration for you.  Here is a picture/poem that I wrote in honor of those who have served our country.   If you happen to follow my Odyssey through Nebraska blog, you may have already seen the photos, but I decided I wanted to share it again.  There are a few additional pictures on that blog that honor today’s patriotic spirit if you feel like checking that out.

Loved the poem! And your whole site for that matter. Thank you for bringing your blog to my attention. I actually put a link to your poem on my personal Facebook page. I have several friends who have had family deployments – I know that the poem will be an encouragement to them!
