Ever since our youngest was little, we have been purposefully observing the season of advent. For our family, simply celebrating Christmas is not enough. Advent is so much more. In case you are unfamiliar with that term, below is the definition.
Advent: The period beginning four Sundays before Christmas, observed in commemoration of the coming of Christ into the world.
In years past, I was a part of a wonderful MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group where we were given all sorts of resources to celebrate the birth of Christ. Games and book ideas along with hands on activities. My children can recite the details of the Christmas story with the best of them.
Now my kids are older. While I think my younger ones may play with the Little People Nativity set (at least when their younger cousins are around), we are in a new season of family life. What would once hold their attention is no longer as appealing. Although the Christmas story is timeless, our children have grown up a bit.
That is why I am SO excited about the Advent Devotional my longtime friend, Shauna Letellier has written. Her style of writing will bring new voice to the Bible stories that my kids can recite. Because she poured over the Scriptures when she was writing, her retelling is authentic and true to the Word. The best part of her devotional series – you can download the 25 day devotional for free. I will warn you – that you will so appreciate Shauna’s approach, you will want to buy her book, Remarkable Faith. (Look for my review of that title after the new year! :-)) I want the Word of God to continue to be alive and active in our children’s lives. And I know that means that I need to continue to find new ways to expose them to Scripture.
To download the book, all you need to do is provide Shauna with your name and e-mail. (Click here to do just that!) This does mean that you will get her newsletter, but because her words always point back to His Word, you will be blessed. If you are looking to bring Christmas to life again this season, the Remarkable Advent devotional book will be a wonderful resource for you.
Still not convinced? You will be after you watch this video.
