Song One Advent Hymn Christy Nockels

Song 1: Advent Hymn by Christy Nockels (Seven Songs for my Savior 2018 Edition)

After featuring a Christy Nockels song in my prelude post yesterday, how could I not introduce you to another one of her songs?  This first of seven songs for Savior 2018 edition needed to include this Advent Hymn.  What is fascinating about this song is the fact that Christy has an interesting co-writer.  Charles Wesley – the fabled hymnist from long ago.  I love how she brought back timeless words about Jesus.  She talks about that process in this clip.  Her goal with the advent hymn is to talk about the promise of the first coming.  Trying to distinguish the text that she added from the original words is actually rather challenging.  The words of both songs seem as if it always belonged together.

This time of year we all need the advent to come upon us.  We need the arrival of our Savior to come fresh again.  All of us need to be renewed.  We need you today. Come for our tomorrows.  Because of your first arrival, we know that you will come again.  Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Advent Hymn

Christ whose glory fills the skies
Christ the Everlasting Light
Son of Righteousness arise
Triumph o’er these shades of night

Come Thou long awaited one
In the fullness of Your Love
Loose this heat bound up by shame
And I will never be the same

So here I wait in hope of You,
My soul’s longing through and through
Dayspring from on high be near
Daystar in my heart appear

Dark and cheerless is the morn
‘Till Your love in me is born
Joyless is the evening sun
’till Emmanuel has come

So here I wait in hope of You,
My soul’s longing through and through
Dayspring from on high be near
Daystar in my heart appear
So here I wait in hope of You,
My soul’s longing through and through
Dayspring from on high be near
Daystar in my heart appear
